In May 2024, the Alameda County Superior Court approved a final judgment in People vs. Private Property Impound, Inc., et al., Case No. 24CV069373. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office brought this lawsuit against Private Property Impound, Inc. (PPI) for allegedly unlawfully towing vehicles from private properties in Alameda County between January 1, 2017 and July 23, 2019. The restitution funds awarded in this case are intended to reimburse consumers who may have had their vehicles unlawfully towed by PPI.

If you received a notice, records obtained by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office indicate that PPI may have towed your vehicle at some point between January 1, 2017 and July 23, 2019. This does not guarantee that you are entitled to a payment.

If you qualify for a restitution payment, you may receive up to a base payment of: (1) the amount paid to recover your vehicle, or (2) if your vehicle was illegally towed but you did not recover it, $1,000. You may also be entitled to interest. Depending on the total amount of valid claims received from all claimants, you may receive only a partial restitution payment.
